today i wanna speak about the one of the most important things in our life which is ofcurse health but what does health supposed to mean? our health is our nervous system , in daily basis we always have a certain problems in our life like a regular human beings , and its causing us health issues, all this stress we placing upon us increasing risk of heart rate , any athlete has to know how to be able to control the nervous system, many people know that exircise relieving stress , maybe you feeling better after training thats correct , but without proper sleep, recovery, exircise, nutrition and so on its just not gonna work, the goal is to be able to relieve stress when the stress is already there, lets say if you heard something bad right now, lets say your buisness fail right now or you got a phone call that you got fired from your job and how to be able to react to it , now before ill get to explain the nervous system lets look in the picture above .
there is something that called general adaptations syndrome ,is the situations when the body adapts to stress you place upon it.
the alarm stage:The alarm reaction stage of the GAS prepares a person to respond to the stressor they are experiencing. This is often known as a “fight or flight” response. During the resistance stage, the body tries to counteract the physiological changes that happened during the alarm reaction stage.
2.he resistance stage: of general adaptation syndrome is when the body tries to repair itself after the initial shock of stress.
If the stressful situation is no longer present and you can overcome the stress, your heart rate and blood pressure will start to return to prestress levels during this stage
3. the exhaustion stage:Enduring stressors without relief drains your physical, emotional, and mental resources to the point where your body is no longer able to cope with stress. Signs that you are in the exhaustion stage include: Fatigue- basically where you cannot deal with the situation anymore and you feel hopeless.
now lets talk about the 2 types of nervous system that has to do with the GAS Theory
1.the sympathetic nervous system: is basically responsible for fight or flight, for example:
1.exircise triggers the sympathetic nervous system
2.increase heart rate and cardiac contraction
3.blood vessles dilate to heart and skeletal muscles, constrict to the other
areas of the body
4.increase the metabolic rate and respiration
5.glucose is released
6.all other functions not directly needed are slowed down
2. the parasympathetic nervous system is the rest and digest, basically bringing all internal functions back to the normal after the stress is gone, so the goal is to increase our parasympathetic nervous system with proper exircise.
now before ill start to explain how to increase our parasympathetic nervous system i wanna speak about something the motor unit :
the motor unit is made of neurons that connect to the muscle fibers and sending signals to the muscles during exiricse, basically the more you do something the quicker the signals goes and easier it become.
basically there is something that called " the law of facilitation" now what does that mean?is when you trained your body to move a certain way which is bad technique and its going to be very hard to break a bad habit, once a golf teacher told me that he would rather take an absolute beginner and teach him from the beginning rather than someone who knows already what to do but to correct him to move a diffrent way,
it says that it takes approximately 400-450 repititions to break a bad habit and movement during exircise ,with the nervous system we wanna teach bad technique run away otherwise is gonna get ingrained based on the law of faciliation , now i remember when i came to radical mma to coach rene dreifuss and even though i was good at jiu jitsu but my jiu jitsu wasnt good enough for the people who trained there even those who trained there few months, its was so hard for me to learn to do our movement drills the proper way and i didnt know why, i saw other beginners coming and learning so quick and i just didnt understand why is that , it should be the opposite because i already know jiu-jitsu lets just correct the movement a little bit and thats it, ive been taught wrong without even knowing it, even though i won certain compatitions is still did not matter ,i remember the way the coach showed me how to bridge hip escape from side control even though 2 people laying on you and you cant move, that day the way i looked at jiu jitsu my mindset completly changed, i can promise you that at least 85% of the jiu jitsu gyms dont even teach that, they can teach you a buggy choke, gogoplata,or leg locks but the real important stuff they would not now or teach, only then i realized on how hard is it to break a bad habit during exircise and its not just on mma training is about all the fitness conditioning exircises, but let me tell you something intresting ,why do you really think that the nervous system adapts to physical training ,what just with proper exircise? or proper quality and quantity of recovery after?no, so let me tell you this, im a righty person and writing with my right hand and im kicking and punching better with the right side, but always during training at my gym i was skipping on doing drills and exiricse on the left side beacause i was sucking at doing it,but at my gym there is no such thing you gotta do it on both sides otherwise you dont know the movement, i was scared of doing so much beacause of embarassment in front of my coach, but once i started doing it one after another and after another time times then i felt something diffrent within myself, i felt a certain growth and my mindset changed , i felt so confident since then in sparring like i know everathing already and i was curious to know why beacause i changed a bad habit i felt so much growth ,and i felt that my stress was getting lower even without getting sweaty or crazy cardio, just with proper exircise , once i studiet the exircise phisiology i understood the whole idea and importance of exircise, since then i started to not just stand orthodox while sparring but also unorthodox stand which ofcurse was very hard, but look , standing in orthodox position during fighting dosent mean you doing a bad technique so whats the problem with that, once you trained your body to do things that you feeling uncomftrable your mindset changes, and when you out of your comfort zone during fight a fight you going to lose, not everathing always happen in you right side during a fight, sometime you gotta catch a traingle choke with your left leg and what happens if you didnt got it ,you lost. so our movement has to do with our mindset , it connects toghether and becomes one. so let me explain to you how the mindset and technique connects with each other during exiricse.
there is a 3 phrases of learning:
cognitive: with cogntive you have to think about the movement before you doing it , so it can be good for beginners in mma to always think about the movement before you doing it and be aware of that.
2.associative:once your nervous system starts to adapt quiet a bit to the technique so then you start to associate with the things in the enviroment with the neccessary movement, meaning the stress getting a little smoother but not as much contres thought is involved
3.autonomic: thats the ultimate goal where you wanna be ,where no thought is required
and everything becomes automatically, it same thing as im in a fight and im shooting for the double leg with no hesitation of getting a knee to the face or to fail, when the nervous system adapts to proper technique in martial arts then no fear is involved ,the reason why is once you feeling really confident about doing the technique then you know you going to use it in a fight, i saw some fighters sometimes before training for a fight they used to know and discover there opponent weakness ,either in striking and on the ground and ,it can be a triangle choke weakness,a leg lock, or a good punch or kick to the face , same thing like conor knocked out jose aldo in 13 seconds, you can see even the video before the fight how he used to practice his lefty hand punch to finish the fight, the reason why he won the fight is beacause his lefty hand technique was in autonomic level where no thought was involved, same thing like khabib , he just shooting for the takedown no matter what beacause the technique becomes automatically. just try to think about each movement you doing and be aware of it , look through all your body when you punching or kicking or learning new technique and think about a movement before you doing it, once you becoming aware of each action you doing besides exircise then your mindset is the one is in control and the sympathetic nervous system goes down, why the sympathetic nervous system is so high is beacause the emotions are in control and not the mind, so just think this way: if you able to think about the movement and do it properly with patient then you mind is in control and the technique becomes automatically, same thing with the parasympathetic nervous system you able to control your mind when something happens and not jump right away and getting mad or stressed, think about a solution and try to breath ,there is a solution for everything, now you see how it connects to each other? if the emotions are in control then you are in slavery basically. the mind should be in control in each situation.
thanks guys for reading i hope you guys enjoyed, i would like to hear your opinion in comments below.
