"The Ultimate Guide to Finishing an MMA Fight: 3 Key Strategies and Must-Know Tips"

Updated: Feb 27

The most important thing is the rear naked choke and the reason why it's beautiful is because of the combination of these 3 things:

1.Double leg

2.Guard passing

3.Mount control

If you see famous grapplers like Demian Maia ,Charles Olivera, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Shinya Aoki, they always going for the double or single leg and taking the back because is the best and the most effective way but not easy, Since the whole reason here in this submission to get to the back is based on your legs, in grappling if the hands getting more tired than the legs then isn't grappling, and I'll explain why:

Like you see Khabib here for example using the leg lace control which called murme in jiu jitsu. The whole reason of the game here is once you are taking the double leg your goal isn't to get to mount so fast ,the goal here is to let your opponent to get tired ,if you'll see Khabib he is using his legs on the ground as the best weapon, see the way he was fighting against Michael Johnson, Rafael Dos Anjos and all of them , if you'll see fights of Demian Maia is all about taking the back which starts from double or single leg , if you have a good double leg from close distance then it's more easier to get to mount .

Now I'll explain the second reason why legs are important on grappling.

The mount maybe can sound easy but if you will fight or will grapple with real jiu- jitsu experts you'll see that stay on the mount for long time won't work, but if you know all the mount control techniques which I'll speak about it and post it later and able to use your legs and if they are strong enough to stay in control then your chances of taking the back are high enough. Which leads you to the submission.

You have to understand, maybe it sounds boring just always going for the double leg and take the back and that's it , you may think ,what about a good striking, defence, or other good submissions, basically if you don't have a good takedown, mount control, and rear naked choke submission skills then you are not an mma fighter, and I'll explain why?

In mma it's all about wrestling ,it's basically a wrestling industry if you didn't realize that then you are not in mma ,striking is good to know, defence, but that isn't the whole game of mma. If you see most of the fighters in mma who don't have a good wrestling or jiu jitsu skills they maybe surviving in getting few good knockouts in the beginning but when the real time comes they getting in trouble, if you'll see

Demian Maia he was able to take everyone down and submit almost everyone even in his 40's because of his technique.

Now let's talk about the double leg:

Now if you'll see, most of the takedowns are ending up in double leg takedown, most of them succeeding but not really, the reason why is, the double leg takedown should be from close distance and fast , sometimes the double leg will not completely work but you'll be able to finish it with right technique, as you see in the picture above the guy got a giolutine but the fighter is going to fall on the side control ,even though he catches the giolutine, if you doing any technique the right way your chances to win are higher rather than doing it fast or not the right way.

With the double leg you cannot hesitate you just have to shoot and practice that many times, try to practice with your partner the double leg takedown with a Jab and shoot from close distance. If you'll be good at it then the rest will come, and it's always important to make sure that someone will correct you if you doing a mistake, many gyms just let you do the technique and will not really correct you as long you paying their tuition, unfortunately 90% of the gyms are like that,

A real coach will say if you don't wanna listen I'll refund your money, but you not hearing those stuff everywhere, so just be aware of where are you training and with who ,you may get scammed without even knowing that and the time can just pass by .

Now finally I wanna talk about the rear naked choke :

Maybe you can think that everything is ending once you got the back ,but believe that can be the hardest part and body triangle not always works especially if that's a bigger guy ,you gotta know how to play with your legs to put him in a position where you can choke, Here it's also a legs game not just the hands , all the process of taking the back and finishing it has to do with the legs ,with the hands he can defend but you gotta know where to put the pressure in and how to make him tap.
